Going into Tuesday night's show, I have to say I thought Scotty McCreery was a lock, but then Lauren Alaina stunned the judges with her melodious third and final performance- and two out of the three judges predicted her the favorite to win, with Steven Tyler nearly declaring it a certainty. So I was left thinking that Idol fans would vote in line with the judges, but I was happily proved wrong.
Overall, the finale was an exciting night that saw: the Top 13 finalists performing Lady Gaga's "Born This Way", James Durbin banging it out with Judas Priest, and Casey Abrams teaming up with Jack Black for some awesomeness! Beyoncé joined the ladies of American Idol for "Crazy In Love" and Tom Jones joined the men of American Idol for "It's Not Usual". We were also treated to some season recap video of Randy Jackson's most memorable quotes ("In It To Win It!)", Steven Tyler's most outlandish comments, and an often blushing Jennifer Lopez.
Other celeb/Idol duets included Haley Reinhart with Tony Bennett, and as expected, Scotty McCreery got to sing with one of his idols, Tim McGraw, and Lauren took to the stage with Idol winner Carrie Underwood.
Interestingly, Scotty McCreery told Access Hollywood that he was not aware of the buzz Wednesday afternoon that he would win the Idol crown.
“I stay off the Internet,” he said. “‘Cause some people love you, some of them hate you, so it can tear you up inside. So, I try to stay away from the Internet, but I hadn’t heard that.”
Well, if Scotty had been checking our poll, he would have seen that he had the edge all along! Who were you pulling for last night, Scotty or Lauren???
