La'Porsha Renae Jennings (born August 1, 1993) is an American singer from McComb, Mississippi who finished as the Runner-Up on Season 15 of American Idol.

BackgroundEdit

La'Porsha Renae was a call representative from McComb, Mississippi when she tried out for the show. At 16, she once tried out for season 10 of American Idol. After her college graduation at the age of 22, she was a former victim of domestic abuse. After a year, she separated with her husband and moved to McComb with her one-month-old daughter, Nayalee Keya.

American IdolEdit

La'Porsha auditioned in Little Rock, Arkansas with "Creep" by Radiohead and received a ticket to Hollywood. She advanced passed Hollywood's Lines of Ten, Group Round, and performed "Roar" by Katy Perry for her Hollywood Solo round. She then advanced to Showcase week where she performed "The House of the Rising Sun" by the Animals and advanced to the Top 24. During the Top 24, she performed "Proud Mary" by Creedence Clearwater Revival and performed a duet with Fantasia Barrino singing "Summertime" by Janis Joplin. Afterwards, she advanced to the Top 14 where she received a designated spot in the Top 10 and didn't perform for America's Vote. During the Top 10 she performed "Diamonds" by Rihanna and advanced to the Top 8. During the Top 8, she performed "Halo" by Beyonce; her result is to be announced.

Post IdolEdit

Hours after the end of the American Idol, Renae announced that she had been signed to Big Machine and Motown Records. American Idol mentor and Big Machine Label Group CEO, Scott Borchetta told Billboard the reason for the signing is "Because of the overwhelming fan demand and success of the farewell season of American Idol." Ethiopia Habtemariam, president of MoTown Records will oversee Renae's album. In a post-Idol interview about her plans, Renae indicated she would be leaving Mississippi, and when asked about the Religious Liberty Accommodations Act, an anti-LGBT law in her home state she said "I am one of the people who don’t really agree with that lifestyle. I wasn’t brought up that way." Renae's single "Battles" debuted at number 22 on the US R&B singles chart with a first-week sales total of 7,000.
