Katy Perry
Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (born October 25, 1984), better known by her stage name Katy Perry, is an American singer-songwriter and actress who will be a judge on season 16 of American Idol.
Career
Born and rasied in Santa Barbara, California, Perry started her career in gospel music and released her debut album under her birth name in 2001, but the album flopped. She then transtioned to secular music and despite two failed record deals, she signed with Capitol Records in 2007. Her second album, One of The Boys, was released in 2008 and became her breakthrough album. Her first single off the album, "I Kissed A Girl", became a big hit and even caused some controversary. She has continued to score hits such as "Teenage Dream", "Roar", and "Dark Horse". Her fifth album, Witness, was released on June 9, 2017.
Acting
In addition to her music, Perry has worked as an actress. She made her film debut voicing the character of Smurfette in the 2011 film The Smurfs and its 2013 sequel. She also made an appearence in the 2016 film Zoolander 2.

Perry first appeared on Idol as a guest judge during season 9. She even performed on the show wearing a cape with Adam Lambert's name on it. She was announced as a judge for season 16 on ABC on May 16, 2017. However, the decision was criticized due to reports of her earning possibly $25 million for the job.
Personal Life
Perry was married to comedian Russell Brand from 2010-2012. She has also dated fellow singer-songwriter John Mayer as well as actor Orlando Bloom and was even romatically linked to Twlight star Robert Pattinson.
