Joey DeAnn Cook (born March 30, 1991) is an American singer from Woodbridge, Virginia who finished in 7th place on season 14 on American Idol.


She works as a server at Cozzy's Comedy Club in Norfolk and worked in Newport News. When she is not working, she performs in the streets of Richmond.

American IdolEdit

Cook auditioned for Season 14 of American Idol in Kansas City with "King of Spain" by The Tallest Man on Earth. She earned a ticket to Hollywood where she performed Miranda Lambert's "Kerosene" and The Beatles' "Across the Universe". She advanced into Showcase Week where she performed "Sweet Pea" by Amos Lee and was selected by the judges to continue into the Top 24. While in the Top 24, she performed judge Keith Urban's "Somebody Like You" in a polka style. She was voted into the Top 16 where she performed "Shop Around" by The Miracles and was ultimately voted into the Finals. During the Top 12 she performed a reprise of her audition song. During the Top 11 she performed "Fancy" by Iggy Azalea feat. Charlie XCX and "Man World" by Amos Lee and received rave reviews by the judges. She escaped the double elimination and advanced into the Top 9 where she performed "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" by Cyndi Lauper. Despite the criticism from the Judges, she advanced on to the Top 8 where shed performed "Miss Independent" by Kelly Clarkson for Kelly Clarkson Week and advanced to the Top 7. For the Top 7 she sang "Wrecking Ball" by Miley Cyrus and was eliminated after fellow contestant Rayvon Owen received the Idol Fan Save for the third consecutive time.

Post IdolEdit

Despite not making the top 5, Joey opened for the top 5 on the American Idols Live tour for the first six shows of the tour. She also announced that she has started a funding raising campaign via to raise $92,000 to make her debut album. She also announced that she would be working with the group Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox. Her first collaboration with the band, a cover of the Plain White T's hit "Hey There Deliliah", debuted on YouTube and was released on iTunes on August 27, 2015.


On December 18, 2015, Joey, who was on tour with Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox, was arrested in Rock Springs, Wyoming for possession of marijuana. She later paid a $240 fine and will be put on one year of probation for the offense. She later apologized for her actions, claiming that she only had the marijuana because she suffers from epilepsy and prefers to use natural remedies to help treat it.

Personal LifeEdit

On March 26, 2015, Joey announced on Twitter that she and her longtime boyfriend Evan Higgins are engaged.
