Falling was the coronation song and debut single for Season 15 American Idol winner Trent Harmon. It was released April 6, 2016.
Background[]
Written by Keith Urban, Dallas Davidson, and Brett James, the song was described by Urban at a press conference as a song that sort of fell by the wayside. He later said that he got a phone call asking if he could submit the song to Idol for Trent Harmon to sing at the finale, which he did.
Performance[]
Trent performed it at the final performance show on April 6, 2016. The judges did not critique it, but Urban later said at the post-show press conference that he thought that Trent's performance of it was amazing.
Chart Position[]
The song hit the Top 10 on iTunes, reaching Number 6 moments after Trent had won on April 7, 2016. It peaked at Number 3. It has also hit Number 27 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
Critical Response[]
The song has received positive reviews from critics, who say that the song's sexy, sultry vibe gives the song a similar feel to the Weeknd's Grammy Award-winning hit song "Earned It".
Other Versions[]
A remixed version of the song appears on Trent's debut EP, which was released December 9, 2016.
