Emily Marie Piriz (born January 28, 1996) is an American singer from Orlando, Florida who finished in 12th place on Season 13 of American Idol.
Background[]
Emily began auditioning for television shows when she was 13 years old, auditioning for America's Got Talent 4 times, The Voice 4 times, X Factor twice and American Idol twice where she ultimately made it to the Top 12 during Season 13 before being eliminated.
Musical influences[]
Emily, who is of Cuban descent, has named Pink, Kelly Clarkson and Grace Potter as a couple of her musical influences.
American Idol[]
Emily auditioned in Atlanta where she impressed the judges with her take on the Jessie J song "Mamma Knows Best". She got three yeses from the judges and made it to Hollywood where she did well. However, when she reached the top 30, her performance of "Paris (Oh La La)" by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals was criticized by judge Harry Connick, Jr. due to him feeling that the song was too racy for someone her age. However, the public felt otherwise and voted Emily through to the top 13.
For "This Is Me" week, Emily sang "Glitter In the Air" by one of her idols, Pink. The judges enjoyed her performance as did the public, who voted her through to the next week.
In the "Home" week, she sang "Let's Get Loud" by Idol judge Jennifer Lopez. It, however, ended up being her last as she was eliminated on March 6, 2014, finishing in 12th place.
