Daniel James Seavey (born April 2, 1999) is an American singer from Vancouver, Washington who finished in 9th place on season 14 of American Idol. He is now a member of the all-male group Why Don't We.
The son of a pastor, Daniel has been singing since childhood. He was a high school student when he tried out for the show. His mother has been supportive for him always.
American Idol Edit
Daniel auditioned in San Francisco with Paula Abdul's "Straight Up" and earned his first ever ticket to Hollywood. He sang "Thinking Out Loud" and "I See Fire" by Ed Sheeran during the Hollywood Rounds and advanced to Showcase Week. He sang "Straight Up" by Paula Abdul once more and earned a spot in the Top 24 where he sang "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz. He advanced onto the Top 16 and sang "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)" by Marvin Gaye and was voted into the Finals, being one of the youngest competitors to do so. During the Top 12, he performed "Straight Up" by Paula Abdul for a third time and was voted into the Top 11. During the Top 11, he performed "Happy" by Pharrell Williams and "Lost Stars" by Adam Levine and advanced into the Top 9. He performed "You Make My Dreams" by Hall & Oates during the Top 9 and was eliminated afterwords on April 1, 2015. He was eliminated the day before his birthday, which is on April 2.
During his time on the show, many fans and critics felt that due to his age and lack of experience, many believed that Daniel wasn't ready for what would come on Idol and should've waited a few years before trying out. Many also expressed anger towards him when older contestants like Adanna Duru and Maddie Walker were eliminated. Many critics also believed that the judges, due to what was seen as unwillingness to critique him on his performances, were also to blame for Daniel being on the show as long as he was.
